Stay Safe on EasyToList
Your safety is important. Follow these tips to avoid common scams and
have a secure experience buying and selling online.
General Safety Tips
-
Meet in Person: Whenever possible, arrange to meet
the buyer/seller in a public, well-lit area. Consider bringing a
friend along.
-
Inspect Items Thoroughly: Always check the item
carefully for quality and condition *before* you pay or finalize the
deal.
-
Trust Your Instincts: If a deal seems too good to be
true, or if the other party behaves suspiciously or pressures you,
walk away.
-
Keep Communication On-Platform: Use the EasyToList
chat feature for initial communication. Be cautious if someone
immediately insists on moving to WhatsApp or email.
Avoiding Payment Scams - VERY IMPORTANT!
-
NEVER Pay in Advance:
Do not send money before receiving and inspecting the item.
This includes requests for deposits, advance payments, 'shipping
fees', 'insurance costs', or 'customs charges'. This is the most
common way people get scammed.
-
Beware of Overpayment Scams: Be suspicious if a buyer
'accidentally' sends you more money than the agreed price (often via a
fake cheque or payment notification) and asks you to refund the
difference. The initial payment will likely bounce later.
-
Avoid Unusual Payment Methods: Be cautious of
requests to pay using wire transfers (like Western Union, MoneyGram),
gift cards, or other non-standard, non-traceable methods. Cash on
delivery (after inspection) is often safest for local deals.
-
Verify Payment Confirmations: Do not rely solely on
screenshots or emails as proof of payment. Verify directly with your
bank or payment provider if unsure.
Protect Your Personal Information
-
Don't Share Sensitive Data: Never give out your bank
account details, credit card numbers, OTPs (One-Time Passwords),
Aadhaar number, or other sensitive personal identification details.
-
Be Wary of Phishing: Do not click on suspicious links
sent via chat or email that ask for your login details or personal
information. Log in directly through the official EasyToList website.
Recognize Common Scam Tactics
- Deals that seem significantly cheaper than market value.
-
Buyers/sellers creating unnecessary urgency or pressure to act
quickly.
-
Elaborate 'sob stories' or reasons why they need payment upfront or
can't meet in person.
- Poor grammar, spelling mistakes, or generic-sounding messages.
- Requests to communicate or pay outside the EasyToList platform.
- Refusal to meet in person or allow item inspection.
